5 studios in san francisco, good morning. i'm brian hackney with this local news brief at 7:26. >>> volunteers are getting ready for a big holiday toy and book giveaway in san jose and there is cate caugiran. she joins us live with more. good morning, cate. >> reporter: good morning, brian. i want to show you some of these parents have been in line here since 5:00 last night all for that toy drive. sacred heart community service has collected a total of 17,000 toys. the toys will be given out to more than 5600 kids in the bay area. part of the christmas toy box distribution to help low income parents bring smiles to their children christmas morning. and we want to make note this all kicks off at 10:00 this morning and you can still donate. they need toys for teens and books for all ages. brian, back to you. >> thank you. >>> we'll have traffic and weather coming up. >>> good morning. we have been watching a couple of problems on bay area roads including one southbound 101 past the alum rock exit just cleared to the right-hand shoulder.

this morning in san francisco. the mother tried to get help at a family shelter in the bayview overnight. but she was refused. the mother then handed the baby to a man who flagged down the police. the mother and child are now in the hospital. >>> four women, one man, all arrested for the murder of a man found bound and gagged on a san francisco street over the weekend. police say the suspects and two victims had some sort of relationship but they are not disclosing any of the details. >>> got your traffic and weather and the rainy weather forecast coming up right after the break. >>> good morning. it's a winter wonderland up in the sierra, chain requirements are in effect on 80, 50 and 88 this morning. closer to home we have rain and high tides. northbound 101 at highway 1 off- ramp is going to be shut down in morning from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that's traffic. for your forecast, here's lawrence. >> scattered showers around the bay area a chance we could see a couple of snowflakes across some of our higher peaks. looking toward the san jose area, still so

the bay area with so much rain that flood warnings have been issued near san francisco. in the higher elevations of the sierra mountains, more than three feet of snow trapped drivers for hours over the weekend. as the storm passes over the rocky mountains it's expected to dump a few feet of snow and disrupt travel at salt lake city's airport on christmas eve, before piling more snow onto the midwest today into tomorrow. >> merry christmas. happy holidays. >> reporter: despite the forecast, one traveler used to polar weather expects to deliver with a little help from his friends. >> i'm going to do everything i can. when rudolph gets that nose on we're going where we've got to go any time we've got to get there. >> reporter: some travelers definitely will see some snow. in oklahoma and arkansas, they're expected to get as much as six inches of snow. it's even possible that here in the dallas area they could get a rare event, a white christmas, possibly an inch or two. >> anna werner thanks. and meteorologist jeff from our cbs station with the forecast. it looks lik
